During the week Mandate review-program law scales of Grums municipality stirred up strong feelings. Residents law scales and politicians in the municipality believes that the program is fierce angled and that Grums painted in too dark colors.
Now select the municipality law scales to notify the program to the Review Board. The reason is that local politicians were not given space in the review, even though a good 24 minutes long interview was conducted.
"Therefore, it appeared to viewers as if the municipality does not care about the issues raised and to possibly refused to reply," states the municipality of P4 Värmland.
Nils Hanson, publisher of the Mandate Review, says that it took Grums as an example of a national problem and therefore could not claim responsibility of a local councilor. Instead starred Värmland Regional Council Tomas Riste and rural minister Sven-Erik Bucht.
They argue that it appears that the municipality does not care, they dodge questions. What do you say about that? - There's nothing we say or imply in the program. It is so, an interpretation that has not been with our program to do.
But had you not been able to refer their positions or let them express themselves short? - It had been able to do, but as I said, we had a regional politician who expressed similar opinions as councilor. We thought that was enough.
Do you take to you of something in their criticism? - Yes, one criticism that I take very seriously, we are accused of blackening. These are questions we work a lot with internally. There is always a risk that as a journalist maximizes the negative, and produces an image that is all black instead of gray.
- We do not claim to represent the truth to one hundred percent of this type of complex issues. It is a personal portrayal of a society in decline, signed Joakim LaMotte.
Nils Hanson says that the reactions to the program turned in both directions; some believe that the picture is far too black, others that it is even worse in reality.
- It shows how different they can look at things. Just when it comes to such complex issues, it is difficult to say what is right and wrong, law scales if black paint or not. I have taken to me by the criticism and should think about whether we could have done anything differently.
Is it harder to depict events than to examine concrete grievances? - Yes. Here one can not - as we usually do - produce evidence of an anomaly and subsequently accountability. This is a far-reaching process of social development where no single person can be held accountable. Therefore, law scales the question is so difficult to tackle.
Mandate Review is accustomed to different forms of counter-attacks, the audited trying to take the sting out of the program. In the current case, the PR consultant Paul Ronge retained as a consultant by the Grums municipality. Among other things, they have published 24 minute long interview that never came with the program.
- This means that there will be additional pressure on us to have the precision of our journalism, and that we also give as accurate a picture as possible and not concern ourselves with blackening. I think it actually benefits our journalism.
